Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I consider one of your Birth Courses?
At About Little Humans, our courses were created from both professional training and real-life experience. During our own pregnancies, we discovered how powerful hypnobirthing and birth education could be - not only in preparing for birth, but in building confidence, reducing fear, and helping us feel more informed and empowered as parents.
That experience inspired us to train as certified hypnobirthing teachers and create courses that combine practical tools, evidence-based information, and compassionate support for expectant parents.
Our birth courses are designed to help you:
- Understand how birth works and what to expect during labour
- Learn practical hypnobirthing techniques such as breathing, relaxation, and mindset preparation
- Explore your birth options, pain relief choices, and informed decision-making
- Feel more confident communicating with your healthcare team
- Prepare both you and your birth partner for a calm, supported birth experience
We know that modern parents are often overwhelmed by conflicting information online. That’s why we’ve carefully researched and curated the content in our courses using trusted sources, including medical guidance, research studies, books, and evidence-based birth education. We then bring it all together in a clear, practical, and easy-to-follow format designed specifically for busy parents.
Most importantly, our goal is not to promise a “perfect” birth. It’s to help you feel informed, prepared, and empowered, whatever path your birth journey takes.
We invite you to explore our course descriptions to find the option that best suits your pregnancy and birth preferences.
Should I choose a live online birth course or the pre-recorded digital birth course?
The right choice depends on your personal learning style, schedule, and preferences. Both options provide comprehensive birth preparation and are designed to help you feel informed, confident, and prepared for birth.
Our live online courses are ideal for parents who enjoy interactive learning. You'll have the opportunity to ask questions in real time, participate in discussions, and learn alongside other expectant parents. Many parents value the supportive group environment, the chance to share experiences and concerns, and the connections they make with others who are at a similar stage in their pregnancy journey.
Our Birth Ready Digital Course offers the flexibility to learn whenever and wherever suits you. You can progress through the course at your own pace, revisit topics as often as you like, and fit your birth preparation around work, family life, and other commitments.
The digital course is much more than a hypnobirthing programme. It is a comprehensive birth preparation course that combines hypnobirthing with antenatal education. You'll learn about the stages of labour, birth options, pain relief choices, birth planning, the role of hormones during labour, how your body works during birth, and practical tools to help you feel calm and confident throughout the process.
Whichever option you choose, our goal is the same: to provide you with evidence-based information, practical techniques, and the confidence to approach birth feeling prepared, empowered, and excited to meet your baby.

Is hypnobirthing just airy-fairy nonsense?
Not at all. In fact, one of the biggest misconceptions about hypnobirthing comes from its name. Hypnobirthing is not about being hypnotised, losing control, or relying on positive thinking alone. It is a practical approach to birth preparation that combines evidence-based information, relaxation techniques, breathing exercises, and mindset training.
The foundations of hypnobirthing can be traced back to the work of physician Dr. Grantly Dick-Read, who observed that fear during labour often led to increased tension and discomfort. His work inspired what we now know as the fear-tension-pain cycle, a concept that remains central to modern hypnobirthing.
At its core, hypnobirthing is grounded in an understanding of how the body and mind work together during labour. It explores the physiology of birth, the role of hormones such as oxytocin and adrenaline, and how stress, fear, and relaxation can influence the birth experience.
Through hypnobirthing, you'll learn practical techniques to help you remain calm, work with your body during labour, and make informed decisions throughout your birth journey. You'll also gain a deeper understanding of how labour works, why certain techniques can be effective, and how to create an environment that supports the natural processes involved in birth.
Rather than promising a particular type of birth, hypnobirthing aims to help you feel informed, confident, and prepared-giving you the tools to approach birth with greater calm, trust, and self-belief, whatever path your birth may take.
For mums planning a natural birth, can labour be painless with hypnobirthing?
Every birth experience is unique, so we cannot guarantee that labour will be painless. Pain and discomfort are experienced differently by each individual and can be influenced by many factors.
What hypnobirthing aims to do is help you work with your body during labour, rather than against it. By understanding how labour works and learning techniques such as breathing, relaxation, visualisation, and mindset preparation, many women report feeling calmer, more in control, and better able to manage the sensations of labour.
Some mothers who practise hypnobirthing describe their births as involving minimal discomfort and choose to use little or no pain relief, while others decide that medical pain relief is the right choice for them. Both experiences are valid, and hypnobirthing can be used alongside any form of pain relief or birth plan.
One of the key principles of hypnobirthing is understanding that contractions are a normal physiological process designed to help bring your baby into the world. By reducing fear and tension, many women find labour feels more manageable and less overwhelming.
Our role is to provide you with practical tools, evidence-based information, and the confidence to approach birth feeling calm, informed, and prepared. How you choose to use those tools, and how your birth unfolds, will be unique to you.
If you are planning an induction, it's important to be aware that some induction methods can lead to stronger or more intense contractions. We discuss this within our courses and explore ways to use hypnobirthing techniques effectively in both spontaneous and induced labour.
What makes your birth courses unique?
We created our birth courses to offer something different from traditional antenatal classes and standalone hypnobirthing courses. Our aim is not only to educate expectant parents, but also to help them feel confident, empowered, and excited about the journey ahead.
Comprehensive Content
Many birth preparation programmes focus either on antenatal education or hypnobirthing. Our courses combine the best of both. Alongside practical hypnobirthing techniques, we provide evidence-based information about labour, birth options, pain relief, birth planning, and informed decision-making. We also cover important topics that are often overlooked, such as the golden hour after birth, birth partner support, creating a positive birth environment, and understanding your options throughout pregnancy and birth.
Designed for Busy Parents
We understand that preparing for a baby can feel overwhelming and that your time is valuable. That's why our courses are designed to be engaging, practical, and easy to follow. Rather than overwhelming you with large amounts of technical information in a short period of time, we focus on helping you understand the "why" behind birth practices and recommendations, making the information easier to absorb, remember, and apply.
A Positive and Supportive Approach
Our goal extends beyond education. We want parents to feel calm, prepared, and confident as they approach birth. We dedicate time to supporting both mums and birth partners, helping them understand their role and how they can work together as a teamreplace fear and uncertainty with confidence and excitement about meeting your baby.
Created by Mums, for Parents
As mums ourselves, we know how overwhelming pregnancy and birth preparation can feel. We created these courses based on the information, support, and reassurance we wish we had access to during our own pregnancies - bringing together trusted research, professional training, and real-life experience in a format that is both informative and accessible.. Through practical tools, evidence-based information, and ongoing support, we aim to
Are your courses only intended to support the expectant mother?
Not at all. We strongly believe that birth partners play an important role throughout pregnancy, labour, birth, and the early days of parenthood. That's why our courses are designed for both the expectant mother and her chosen birth partner.
Many birth partners feel unsure about what to expect during labour or how best to provide support. Our courses include dedicated sections that explain the birth partner's role in detail, offering practical guidance on how they can provide emotional and physical support, advocate for the mother's preferences, and help create a calm and positive birth environment.
By understanding how labour works, the role of birth hormones, and the techniques taught throughout the course, birth partners often feel more confident, involved, and prepared for the birth experience. Rather than feeling like a bystander, they become an informed and valuable member of the birth team.
Whether your birth partner is a spouse, partner, family member, or close friend, we encourage them to participate so that you can prepare for birth together and feel supported every step of the way.
When should I start a birth course?
There is no perfect time to start a birth course, and it's never too early - or too late - to begin preparing for birth.
We generally recommend starting from around 20 weeks of pregnancy onwards, as this gives you plenty of time to absorb the information, practise any hypnobirthing techniques, and build your confidence before your baby's arrival.
That said, many parents join our courses much later in pregnancy and still find them incredibly valuable. We've supported mums who completed a course at 39-40 weeks and went on to benefit greatly from the knowledge, tools, and preparation they gained.
Whether you're in your second trimester or approaching your due date, a birth course can help you better understand your options, feel more prepared for labour and birth, and approach the experience with greater confidence and peace of mind.
Is it worth doing a birth course if I plan to have a caesarean birth?
Absolutely. Birth preparation is valuable regardless of how your baby is born, and hypnobirthing can be particularly helpful for parents planning a caesarean birth.
Hypnobirthing is not just for vaginal births. The breathing, relaxation, visualisation, and mindset techniques taught in our courses can help you feel calmer, more confident, and better prepared before, during, and after your caesarean birth. Many parents find these tools helpful in reducing anxiety, understanding their options, and approaching birth feeling more informed and in control.
Our comprehensive Advanced Hypnobirthing & Antenatal Course includes information about caesarean births, helping you understand what to expect, how to prepare, your available options, and ways to create a positive birth experience. We also discuss topics such as gentle caesarean birth, skin-to-skin contact, the golden hour, birth preferences, recovery, and the role of your birth partner.
For parents who know they will be having a planned or elective caesarean birth, we also offer a short dedicated Hypnobirthing for Caesarean Birth course. This specialised course focuses entirely on preparing for a positive caesarean experience and provides practical tools, information, and support tailored specifically to your birth journey.
Whatever type of birth you are planning, our goal is to help you feel informed, prepared, and empowered as you welcome your baby into the world.
